homemade pizza

Monday, August 4, 2014

Pizza is made, bought or consumed pretty much weekly in my house. Some would say we're addicted. Were definitely not pizza snobs, were down with dominos or any other delivery, we love a good authentic Italian pizza, pizza on an English muffin even. All pizza is good in our books.
I recently took the plung into baking, which is scary because its basically a science. One wrong move and you could explode your kitchen. I did it anyways and I'm so glad. It was so easy and so good. Its hard to go back to the English muffin pizzas after making your own homemade dough. Not really
This recipe I found online, basically fool proof.
  • 1 cup (250 ml) warm water
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) instant yeast
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) sugar
  • 2 cups (500 ml) all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon (5 ml) salt
Add the yeast sugar and water, mix and let stand for approx 10 minutes or until frothy. Add flour to water, mix until in a uniform ball and begin to kneed. Add extra dough or water accordingly. Place on an oiled bowl and cover, let stand in warm area for about an hour or until risen. When dough has risen, cut into two and stretch out to fit pan, bake at 400F for 10-15 minutes.
This recipe makes two pizzas, if I don't bake both in a night I place the second in a zip lock bag and freeze it. It requires extra flour once defrosted since it will be a little sticky from the condensation.

business casual

Friday, August 1, 2014
Business casual can be a tough look to master. You aren't confined to a stuffy corporate look but you probably shouldn't wear jeans or sneakers. It can be hard to find the line in between casual and business while still having your personality shine in your wardrobe.
This is a really basic look that shouldn't scare anyone. Basic pieces every professional women should have in their wardrobe, you can easily rotate in any blouse and fun pair of shoes to make this basic look not so boring. Definitely an easy look to master.

This is a sliiightly more daring look. I.e no black! Its still really basic and neutral. Easy to rotate any of these pieces into multiple looks. Luckily in business casual offices you have more freedom in your wardrobe. I added a funky necklace that is subtle enough to keep this outfit looking timeless and not too trendy. I have a general rule to add one "fun" item to each outfit so you can never over do it whether its a bright colored shoe, a funky statement necklace or a bold patterned blouse. One piece at a time seems to be the perfect balance.

Another way I like to do business casual is to simply mix business and casual pieces together. In this outfit I did a slouchy t with a skirt and bold jacket. You can easily remove the blazer after work for a much more casual look.

Business casual doesn't have to be hard, as long as you have some basic pieces to mix and match you can wear just about anything with them.

slouchy t

Sunday, July 20, 2014
i love a good slouchy t, i feel like they can be dressed up and down although dressing it up can be a little tricky. you can definitely do the wide leg trousers but i find that skinny leg ones are a little more fool proof and of course add it with a leather jacket and ripped jeans and you'll look like a total bad ass.

it's a little hard to find the best one to fit your body. you don't want to look like you just got a shirt in the wrong size and sometimes it slouches in one spot and a not in another and looks unflattering and feels uncomfortable. i find it best to pair an over sized, slouchy t with something more feminine so you don't feel so sloppy. skinny jeans, a girly pattern, a bright statement necklace, red lips etc. i love to combine "masculine" and "feminine" pieces, leather and floral print is probably my favorite.
